THE NATIONS of the world have their origins in decisions made in the years immediately following the Flood. This week, we discuss the table of nations and briefly summarize the migrations of the descendants of Shem, Japheth, and Ham.
We also explain why Babel was important to Nimrod, a prelude to next week’s study on the Tower of Babel.

Morning Brother and Sister,
I just wanted to let you know that the image link and the caption link below aren’t working for the larger image.
This subject is something I’ve always been curious about so I’m excited to learn and being a geek I love looking at maps.
If you’re using self hosted wordpress check how you included the image there is usually a check for making the image a link to share itself as a larger image you might have missed
Really love y’all, please don’t give people false hope of a rapture that is designed to keep Christians from tribulations, that’s unbiblical & is giving people the impression they are special.
God has poured out his wrath many times & never removed his beloved believers from the earth- He protected them through & from his wrath in Egypt-in did the same for Lot in S&G- he told Noah to build an ark that protected him from his wrath of water and so on! There’s not one verse in Revelation that’s speaks of a 7 yr period.
John 17: 15 I am NOT asking you to take them out of the word but that you keep them from the evil one.
1 Thessalonians 6 they went through great suffering vrs 7 as a result you’ve become a great example to all believers.
Next all the verses were written FIRST to those it was meant for – so did the Thessalonians or the churches of revelation believe they would not suffer any tribulations? Or that only one select group of believers at one certain time gets a get out of wrath free card-how is that fair- how is that God being consistent? Dispensationalism started this pre-rapture hoax in the late 17-early 1800- a pre anything was never taught before that-ever.
Isaiah 26:20 is God Actually saying he will protect you if you believe him. Go, my people, enter your rooms shut the doors behind you. Hide yourselves a little while until the WRATH has passed.
For behold the Lord is coming out of His dwelling to punish the inhabitants aka Watchers -demons-Satan etc of the earth for their iniquity!
Revelation 2: 9 Romans 8:35 & 12:12 2:9 & 5:3 John 16: 33
Deut 4:30 …….
I used to believe we would be raptured before wrath-we are not appointed to it- no we are not but God always protects believers through it in every story without removing them from earth in the Bible -next heaven is coming here! This is where the 1000 yr reign is .
How can we run out to meet our King after his victory if we are raptured ? Happy is the feet of the one who brings the good news-we have overcome-then we will be changed . Something like that.
Love your books Derek ! Please research this, I know Christians who just might lose their salvation because of the combination of what’s coming and tribulations…. After that -God promised us the rose garden.
Keep up the great work.
I had to say this because I know it to be so.
Betsy

Notes from Targum: He said unto men: depart from the religion of Shem, and cleave to the institute of Nimrod.
Shem walked in the way of Noah.
Nimrod carried out the business of the Watchers and Nephilim.
Gen 11:10 Shem 100 yrs, 2 yrs after flood. Gen 5:31 Noah 500 yrs oldest born.
I always thought they were triplets. He needed help building the boat.
I wondered if you had any thoughts about a different translation of Gen. 10:10 being, “He was a mighty tyrant before the face of the Lord.” The blueletterbible.org commentaries (Chuck Smith and David Guzik) mention this, which I’d heard of before.
I was surprised you didn’t bring up Nimrod’s mother, Semiramis, given your interest in the early religions. I realize this would be a really big rabbit trail, but I thought it would be worth mentioning.
Hi, Sheryl: We’ll get deeper into Nimrod’s story next week. Genesis 10 is all about Babel. However, Semiramis, who was supposed to be Nimrod’s wife and the mother of Tammuz, lived at least 2,000 years later than Nimrod.
His kingdom flourished during the “Uruk Expansion,” a period between about 4000 BC and 3100 BC according to the dates used by secular archaeologists. Semiramis, the Assyrian queen Shummuramat, ruled between 811 and 808 BC.
Alexander Hislop meant well when he wrote The Two Babylons but he didn’t have access to discoveries made over the last 150 years, and there are valid questions about his scholarship as well.
Thank you so very much for your Bible studies….for tearing it apart and taking us back to the roots of history and culture so we can better understand why the Bible was written the way it was. I have gotten better understanding of Genesis because of your studies. I am anxious to read Sharon’s Red Wing Saga and the books I have in my library you have written, Derek. I also hope to someday get to meet you both! May God continue to bless your ministry and my prayers are with you both (for health also Sharon!). You are both such a blessing!
Thank you!
Excellent
Hi Derek and Sharon,
I agree with Dr. Heiser and you in regard to the euphemism “saw their father’s nakedness” meaning that Ham had sexual relations with his father’s wife. Where I disagree is in saying that Ham had relations with his mother. though we are all speaking from “silence” (more or less), it’s very possible that Noah’s original wife (the mother of the 3 boys) passed away and that he, at some point, took a new, younger wife. Just a thought….
God bless,
Laura 🙂
Hi, I’m catching up with you. Sharon asked if Japeth or Shem was the oldest because it would continue God’s habit of blessing the second son instead of the first. In Gen 10:21 it states that Shem is Japeth’s younger brother. I wondered if this was the first instance of blessing the second son. The only prior example I found was Cain and Abel, most likely twins. Cain killed Abel; the eldest killed the youngest. I propose that blessing the second son is because of this. Cain was cursed, Jesus couldn’t come from a cursed line, and the replacement, Seth, became the blessed line. Since God loves patterns He continued blessing the second son. What do you think?
We think you’re right on. Great catch!
