Gilbert House Fellowship #406: Song of Solomon 1–5

THE SONG OF SOLOMON has layers of meaning. On the surface, it’s a beautiful depiction of the intimate relationship between a husband and wife. At a deeper level, it’s a picture of the mutual love between Christ and his church.

We discuss the first five chapters and note the bride’s description of herself as “very dark, but lovely,” which is not based on racial characteristics but implies one whose skin is darkened by the sun—a laborer, one of lower social status than her husband. Nonetheless, the husband, who may be Solomon, is clearly in love with his bride.

  1. Greetings in Christ Jesus! Always edifying to hear your news updates and Scriptural perspective. I do miss seeing Sharon, though. Used to love the two of you together on Revelation study and Science updates. Blessings in your Build Barn Better, which is where Derek presents his news reports…with the dog. But like Waldo…Where is Sharon these days?
Love you both, especially when you present together!

  2. Dear Derek and Sharon,
As always, great insight into your reading.
It was like liistening to love-birds singing to my ears.

  3. I thank our God for the blessings He has bestowed upon you. May He continue to pour out even more as you faithfully follow Him. In Christ Jesus
